Joomla! How-To Blog

Would you like an easy way to continually keep Google's attention on your Joomla site? Xmap is a Joomla component/plugin that automatically adds your new posts to a dynamic sitemap which feeds to your Google webmaster tools account. This means that Google gets PINGED every time you add a new post or article to your site. When Google gets pinged, your site is more likely to climb up the Google ranks.

Here is how to do it yourself:
  1. Make sure you have a Google account
  2. Sign up for a Google Webmaster Tools account
  3. Download XMAP onto your hard drive
  4. Install XMAP into the admin area of your Joomla site. Click to learn how to install an extension into your Joomla site.
  5. To configure the component, follow the instructions in XMAP's documentation pages.
  6. Copy the URL of the XML version of the site map and log into your Google Webmaster Tools account.
  7. If your site isn't listed, choose ADD A SITE and add your URL
  8. Once it is listed, click on it and go to the SITEMAPS section
  9. Click on SUBMIT A SITEMAP
  10. Paste the URL that you copied earlier, deleting the actual domain. (It will look something like the text in the image below, under the word Sitemap)
  11. This should do it!
Here's what your sitemap will look like in Google Webmaster Tools after you've installed it correctly:

NOTE: I like empowering people, as you know, but I understand that upon gazing at the instructions above, you may feel overwhelmed. I can go through the steps and install a dynamic sitemap for you for $100 plus GRTax for NM residents.
