Watch this 10 minute video to learn a simple way to unearth the best keywords for your site. As of the end of 2009, 13,000 people have watched it.
By the way, since this was made the Google Adword Keyword Tool has changed and the columns are in a different order. Also the search volumes are showing up as numbers now instead of boxes. Be sure to check which column you're looking at. Remember too that the advertiser competition represents buyers of Google Adwords, not organic search. Still, I have found this column to be a good indicator of even the organic search results much of the time.
