Dead on the Web?™
Ignite your web presence with an affordable search-friendly, social-friendly web site that you update yourself, developed by award-winning web marketing author and long-time Santa Fe web designer Hope Kiah.
I recently attended a workshop given by a Google team that is traveling around the country teaching small business owners how to get a simple site going, for free for a year, including a domain name. If you missed it, and you live in New Mexico, you can still take advantage of the offer here.
If you want to see the tiny site I built in half an hour, with photos taken hurriedly with my phone, here it is: Sprouted Wheat Bread.
Have you heard about the HeartBleed Bug? Scary Stuff!
Quoted from http://www.heartbleed.com: "The Heartbleed Bug is a serious vulnerability in the popular OpenSSL cryptographic software library. This weakness allows stealing the information protected, under normal conditions, by the SSL/TLS encryption used to secure the Internet."
This means that someone can steal your login information! This would be a good time to change your passwords, sorry to say!
For now, before logging into any secure sites I am entering the URL into the form at http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/ and I recommend you do the same. Regarding banking, some banks give out "tokens" which are small digital keys that generate a second password every time you log in. I've used one for years and I love it. It's extremely secure.
Please visit the Heartbleed Test website and enter the address of the site you plan to log into in the field. If you get a warning, do not log in. Contact the site owner. Check your own website as well. If your site is vulnerable, contact your host immediately. My clients largely use Bluehost and Cloud Access. Cloud Access is on top of this and has patched their system for protection. I just got off the phone with Bluehost and was told that they have not been effected. They suggested, however, that users check their sites using this form. I suggest that everyone enter their URLs into this form to see if they're effected.
Be safe out there!
This hands-on, interactive workshop is sponsored by Santa Fe SCORE and designed for businesses that have – or plan to develop – websites.
Participants will discover the keywords which their ideal customers search in Google, and how to incorporate them into their websites, using search engine optimization (SEO). Computers will be available but participants may want to bring their own laptops. Participants should bring their URLs and/or questions.
FYI, the class is filling up and the initial signups already are on the list for personalized help. I can't guarantee that I will be able to devote much personalized time to attendees who sign up starting now. But you will learn a TON from the help I give other attendees. (Since SCORE is sponsoring this event, I delayed my own announcement until their members were given a chance to sign up for individualized attention.)
This webinar was hosted by Cloud Access on February 21st, 2014. We had a ton of attendees and I got to help several of them live with their website optimization. IT was a blast.
Sadly, the Google Adwords Keyword Tool is GONE!! :-(
But the new Google Keyword Planner is not terrible. I think it's more accurate, actually than the old one. This video is the perfect one for learning how to use it, very quickly and easily.
